Concrete Carpet -Berry, 2025
Pavement paint and glass beads

Concrete Carpet -Berry is one in a series of decorative carpet inspired patterns rendered onto everyday footpaths. This pattern, rendered outside Berry School of Arts, references Regency design, common in England in 1822, the time of European colonisation of Wodi Wodi Country. Regency design appropriated motifs from throughout European history, disassociating them from their original contexts and amalgamating them in new combinations for decorative purposes. Likewise, the design of Concrete Carpet – Berry was constructed from an internet based ‘grand tour’ combining imagery from Egyptian, Etruscan, Italian Renaissance and Baroque cultural periods. It renders a veneer of decorative aesthetics on the everyday environment inviting audiences to walk consciously along the footpath and, in turn, on Country.
