OpenField Volunteers
Thank you so much for your interest in becoming part of the team to bring to life, the second OpenField Contemporary Arts Festival.
OpenField in 2023 was an unqualified success, acknowledging the depth of creativity in the region and the drawing power of contemporary art and the town of Berry. For 2025, we build on this in every way.
Immediately below, we outline the roles and then further, ask you to choose best fit and indicate your availability preferences. We understand that this could change as we get closer but it gives me a good idea when getting down to the roster.
We will have a briefing session closer to the event however, any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at: openfieldvolunteers@gmail.com. Otherwise, please hit the ‘Sign Up Now’ button and sign up! And if you have a friend who you think would like to help, please point them in this direction!
The Roles
OPENFIELD HOST:
With the Festival taking place throughout the township of Berry, it is designed to be a walking experience.
Visitors and locals will be supported by the conspicuous presence of our Festival hosts, who will welcome, meet & greet and direct all questions.
Our hosts will be the front face of the Festival and should reflect the culture of the event and its creators. They will need to familiarise themselves with the layout of venues and the artists within them and will be fully briefed.
VENUE MANAGER:
Some venues have multiple artists and installations and are likely to have a lot of foot traffic. This role will require someone who is able to take a big picture view of the venue, the access and egress, visitor flow, be able to troubleshoot with other volunteers and staff. Current first aid certificate is desirable.
INSTALLATION HOST:
While art is subjective, the experience of a visitor to a gallery or festival can be greatly enhanced by a shared knowledge of the artists' genesis and process in creating the work. Our Installation Hosts will get a close up experience of the work, with the artists sharing their insights so that the host can share this directly with visitors. In some instances, the artist will require support with live interactive works. Some will be ticketed events and require the hosts to verify purchases for entry.
HOSPITALITY:
OpenField will have Friday and Saturday night music functions with a bar. We are looking for people over the age of 18 who hold an RSA to join our hospitality team, along with others who would look after food sales and ticketing. People with various levels of experience are welcome and we are happy to supply references for future work.
BUMP IN CREW:
People with carpentry, building, electrical and other handy trades will be welcome to join in our team that will bump in the Festival infra- structure and artworks in the week leading up the Festival.
The inaugural OpenField Arts Festival was hugely successful in 2023, and will be on again and open to the public 13-15 June 2025. The 2023 event saw a team of around 90 volunteers give their time and skills to enable OpenField to be the best it could possibly be.
As we get closer, we are once again searching for a team of passionate volunteers to help make the festival a reality! Roles will include hosts, hospitality, installation crew and venue management, and help is wanted in the lead up and during the festival itself.
