THEMOON, 2025
wool, aluminium, thread
THEMOON is a giant 3m x 2m crochet representation of the moon in the night sky.
Designed to be viewed in the round THEMOON is made up of various smaller sized pieces depicting the moon’s lunar phases, which, collectively, from a distance, appears as an enormous image of a waxing gibbous/full moon in the dark night sky. A series of community workshops in Berry and Sydney, led by the artist, were conducted in the lead up to the festival, where community members learnt Luise’s technique and created pieces to contribute to the final work for OpenField.
THEMOON connects with OpenField’s curatorial theme Re:Place because of the lunar nexus with agriculture and the consequent disengagement inherent in land clearing and development.
