Amanda Cole is a composer of instrumental and electronic Art Music. Her compositions feature microtonal structures, interference beats and fusions of electronic and acoustic timbres. Cole’s compositions include percussion trios for a purpose built Microtonal Glass Harmonica, instrumental concert pieces with sine tone accompaniments and choral works in just intonation tuning. She has also collaborated with visual artists, architects and musicians to create installations, apps and New Media projects.

Amanda’s compositions have been performed by Synergy Percussion, Ensemble Offspring, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Chorus, The Noise String Quartet, The Sound Collectors Lab (Melbourne) and Kroumata (Sweden). Her music has been performed at the Sydney Opera House, Carriageworks (Sydney), Art Gallery of NSW, Museum of Contemporary Art (Sydney), Casula Powerhouse, Salamanca Arts Centre (Hobart), Phoenix Central (Sydney), Tarrawarra Art Museum and the Palau de la Generalitat in Barcelona. Her pieces have been performed at festivals including Dark Mofo (2016), Bristol Biennial (2016), Melbourne Festival (2017), Horizon Festival (2019), Vivid Sydney (2015) , Biennale of Sydney (2022), SoXXI International percussion festival in Spain (2022), Boom International Percussion Festival (2022).

Cole has been awarded an Australia Council Creative Arts Emerging Fellowship (2013) and the APRA Amcos Professional Development Award in the Art Music category (2019). She has been a finalist in the APRA Amcos Australian Art Music Awards in both the Electroacoustic/Sound Art and Choral music categories. Amanda Cole has a Bachelor of Music (Hons.1) and a PhD in Composition from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

For OpenField, Amanda will be collaborating with Natalie Miller on a new commissioned piece combining fibre art with sound art.
